Ah I really enjoy this poem
…is National Limerick Day. Whoop! Who knew? Ha. Most probably the most useless information of the day.
Limericks were popularised by Edward Lear in his “Book of Nonsense” in 1846. In truth, they irritate me – so instead, I give you another of his poems, my childhood favourite, The Owl and the Pussy Cat. I commissioned the illustration from Kitty age 7. I’d have liked Mack to have read this at our wedding but things were troubled then and I didn’t know if she’d be there. So this is for her, her dad and my own kids, in honour of Mr Lear.
