The Solitary Mandolin

the world has enough
of broken souls,
it does not care
for the addition
of two more.

i know i will find my way to you.
i know my feet will always point
to where you are,
the wind will howl your name,
the roads will converge
into one.

i will always be searching
for your face in stranger crowds,
and cursing every one
of your lookalikes
for not being you:

(i cannot build your soul
out of your likenesses)

there will be poems.
i will always write of you,
until the birds remember
no other song,
until the leaves only whisper
your virtues, until
the barks of trees clamour
to bear only the letters
of your sweet name.

i know the world has enough
of broken souls.
two more will not
hurt its burden.
